People come home from prison every day full of hope for a new beginning. But with no one to look after them during the tricky transition to civil society, it is easy for them to lose this hope – especially, when faced with the practical needs for food, clothing and shelter…and confronted with the tough realities of an unforgiving community.
Without positive support and material assistance, even the most basic tasks – like waking up in time for a job interview (without an alarm clock) – become opportunities for failure for former offenders. And as one failure begets another, it is hard to keep even those with the best intentions from returning to the world of crime and corrections.
As a faith community, we have been called to look after prisoners in their despair. Now your church can answer this call by sponsoring a prisoner through RE:CONX (a project of Chattanooga Endeavors). With your sponsorship you will provide the material assistance needed to ease the burden of reentry and to prevent former offenders from losing hope and straying back to prison.
