TOOLS:
Hand Saw
Pruners
Screwdriver or Hammer
Scissors
MATERIALS:
Wood
2) 1'x4' cut to 18" inch's long
2) 1'x4' cut to 3" inch's long

Nails/Screws
15 to 20
Size: 2 1/2" and 1 1/4" screws

Thick Twine
Approximately 5 to 6 feet

Brown Burlap
Cut approximately 2'x5'

Purple Cloth
Cut approximately 1'x5'

 
Step One:
Using your pruners or hand saw cut all of the branches off the tree.
Step Two:
Cut approximately 1' foot off of the top of the tree. Next, come up 2/3 of the way from the bottom and cut through the trunk. The bottom piece will be the stand and the top will be the cross section.
Step Three:
Approximately 2/3 of the way up from the bottom notch the trunk for the cross section.
Step Four:
Attach the cross section to the trunk with nails or screws.
Step Five:
Cut wood to size
Step Six:
Assemble both 18" piece in a cross pattern. Next, attach the 3" pieces for stability.
Step Seven:
Screw or nail the stand to the bottom of the tree
Step Eight:

Tie the twine around the cross section making the letter X twice. Then tie at the back or screw down the twine.

That's It!

 

 

 How to set-up the Lenten Cross

Step One:
Select an area in the vestibule that is easily assessable and visible upon entry an exit. Next, place the Lenten Cross on a table for easy access.
Step Two:
Drape the bottom of the cross with the burlap allowing the fabric to cover the stand.
Step Three:
Drape the purple cloth around the Lenten Cross.
Step Four:
Place the rocks, brochures and sign around the base.

NOTE: Only use rocks that are still attached to the envelopes. They can be hot glued back to envelope if needed. Just make sure you attached the rock to the sticker.
